Led by the Appalachian Trail Conservatory, the Flip Flop Festival is a fun and educational event that supports thru-hikers as they begin their journey along the Appalachian Trail. This free event features hiking workshops, a cookout, and a send-off breakfast for ‘flip flop’ thru-hikers – those taking an alternative route along the trail.
Blue Ridge Arts & Crafts Festival

Every year, the annual Blue Ridge Arts & Crafts Festival takes place in late April or early May. This one-day event features around 70 local artists, food trucks, and live music. The event is free and open to the public. It’s a great chance to support local artists, enjoy delicious food, and have a family-friendly day of fun.
Although in 2026 this event takes place in May, most often the event occurs in April if you’re already planning for next year.
