June Weather in Harpers Ferry

June starts to bring warmer weather to the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. The average temperatures start to increase; average high temperatures are in the 80s, with average low temperatures in the 60s. Thankfully, the summer heat is mild in June, providing warm days to enjoy the many water activities around and cool nights for relaxing at your cabin.
June is not considered windy in Harpers Ferry; the windiest month is February, with the least wind in July. Therefore, expect mild windy days in the month of June.
The sunrise is around 6 am, with the sunset around 8:45 pm, offering plenty of long days for summer fun!
Best Things to Do in June

1. Go Whitewater Rafting
Harpers Ferry sits at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers, making it the perfect destination for water sports, including whitewater rafting.
The 7-mile stretch of rivers around Harpers Ferry offers a range of Class I to Class III rapids, allowing rafters of all experience levels to get out there and have fun. We recommend utilizing one of the local rafting guide companies for your whitewater rafting adventure. They offer an exhilarating experience while providing a safe, smooth ride.
River Riders is a local company offering guided trips, beginners’ lessons, and rentals for experienced riders. Their guided trip lasts 2-3 hours and takes you down Class I to III rapids.

2. Tour the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park
Harpers Ferry is famous for its significance in American Civil War history, boasting many important landmarks, museums, and historic sites.
There are many Civil War battlefields around Harpers Ferry, including those in Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. June is the perfect month to take a walking tour through the park, exploring the many sites along the way.
We recommend starting at Harper’s Ferry Visitor Center before making your way to Lower Town on foot. From here, you can visit John Brown’s Fort, where Abolitionist John Brown’s raid took place, as well as St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church.
Keep going to get to Maryland Heights Trail, a well-loved hiking trail that is part of the park and offers incredible views of the Potomac River and surrounding mountains.
3. Have a Sunset Picnic at “The Point”

Located right where the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers meet, The Point offers the best views of Harpers Ferry, the two rivers, and the Blue Ridge mountains.
It’s the perfect place to head to for a sunset with family and friends. We recommend packing a picnic so that you can stay awhile and enjoy the scenic views. The Point offers something special each season of the year, so be sure to come back in the Fall, Winter, or Spring for another unique view.
Fun fact: The Point gives you a view of three different states at once – West Virginia, Virginia, and Maryland.
4. Go Ziplining
Nothing quite screams summer like ziplining through the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Both River Riders and Harpers Ferry Adventure Center offer zipline canopy tours across the treetops of the Blue Ridge Mountains near Harpers Ferry.
River Rider’s canopy tour features seven ziplines, two sky bridges, and a whopping 50-foot free fall. Harpers Ferry Adventure Center also features seven ziplines and a 100-foot skybridge! This is the perfect activity for the thrill-seeker wanting a unique vantage point of the incredible views.
5. Enjoy Wine at Local Wineries
The region around West Virginia and Northern Virginia is home to countless vineyards, many of which are close to Harpers Ferry. Follow the Loudoun Heights Wine Trail to hit all the best wineries nearby.
June offers the perfect weather to enjoy a day of wine tasting while you take in incredible mountain views. Loudoun Wine Country boasts more than just wineries, offering a mix of breweries, farmers markets, restaurants, and more. You could spend a whole day exploring and never run out of fun experiences.

2025 June Events in Harpers Ferry

West Virginia Moonshine Festival
- Date: June 7, 2025, from 11 am-6 pm
- Location: Sam Michaels Park, Harpers Ferry, WV
The 2nd annual West Virginia Moonshine Festival is taking place in Harpers Ferry in June.
This event features distillery tastings, food vendors, live music, crafts, and more. It’s an all-day event perfect for those looking to get outside, celebrate local vendors, and taste delicious moonshine.
Harpers Ferry Black Heritage Walking Tour
- Date: June 14th from 10 am-12 pm
- Location: First Zion Baptist Church in Harpers Ferry
The Harpers Ferry-Bolivar Historic Town Foundation is putting on a Harpers Ferry Black Heritage Walking Tour in June.
This walking tour highlights the diverse African American community in Harpers Ferry, with both past and present residents. The tour will include the Fillmore and Washington streets, the West Ridge neighborhood, and two local historic Black churches.
The tour is limited to 40 adults and advanced ticket purchase is required.
