Where to Get the Best Coffee in Harpers Ferry

August 18, 2025

For coffee lovers visiting Harpers Ferry, the quest for the perfect cup is easy and rewarding—especially when you’re staying at Mountain Mama Cabins, with rentals just minutes from town.

Harpers Ferry is a hub for delicious local eateries, including its coffee shops and cafes. Whether you crave a bold espresso to start your day or a smooth latte to enjoy while soaking in the historic charm, Harpers Ferry’s local coffee spots offer something for every palate.

From cozy cafes with rustic vibes to vibrant coffee bars serving expertly crafted brews, here’s where to find the best coffee to fuel your adventures.

1. Appalachian Snail Market & Cafe

  • Address: 970 W Washington St, Harpers Ferry
  • Known for: Traditional espresso drinks, medium-roast blend, quality coffee
  • Best for the highest quality coffee.

Newly opened in Harpers Ferry, Appalachian Snail Market & Cafe is the place to go for quality coffee. This small shop, located up the hill from Downtown Harpers Ferry, is known for using locally grown, fresh ingredients, whether in their sandwiches, ice cream, or coffee options.

Appalachian Snail Market serves coffee from Red Rooster Coffee, a fellow Appalachian small business in Virginia that has won many awards for their quality roasting. Red Rooster developed a custom blend for the cafe called the Morning Crawl. It’s a medium roast with notes of chocolate, apples, and cranberry pomegranate juice – how could you go wrong? If you love it, you can bring a few bags home with you, too.

But what they are especially known for are their traditional espresso drinks. From lattes to cappuccinos to pure espresso and everything in between, the baristas serve up well-crafted, beautiful, and tasty espresso drinks each time. They have a limited selection of the most popular flavoring syrups (caramel and vanilla, to name a few) but the thing to do here is skip the syrups and let the coffee be the star of the show.

And if coffee isn’t your thing, that’s okay! The menu also includes teas, matcha, chai tea lattes, and more. Whether you prefer hot or iced, in a mug or to go, Appalachian Snail Market & Cafe is the spot  for the best coffee in Harpers Ferry. You won’t be disappointed.

2. Battle Grounds Bakery

  • Address: 180 High St, Harpers Ferry
  • Known for: Affagatos, breakfast, and lunch options
  • Best for the central location in Downtown Harpers Ferry.

The Appalachian Snail has hands-down the best coffee and espresso in town, but if you’re looking for something in Downtown Harpers Ferry then Battle Grounds Bakery & Cafe is a family-owned local eatery offering a variety of coffee and sandwich options. Serving both breakfast and lunch options, you can choose anything from freshly-made pastries to lunch sandwiches to cookies and beyond.

Some of our favorite food choices include their breakfast sandwich, with your choice of meat, and their house-made muffins. They offer a few gluten-free options as well.

Their coffee menu is full of typical options, too. Whether you prefer starting your day with an Americano, iced chai tea latte, or a warm cup of hot cocoa, there’s plenty to choose from at Battle Grounds.

3. Country Cafe

  • Address: 1723 W Washington St, Harpers Ferry
  • Known for: Rations coffee roaster, breakfast and lunch menu
  • Best for those seeking an authentic diner experience.

Country Cafe is a family-owned diner that’s been serving the Harpers Ferry community for many years. It’s a long-standing spot to grab coffee and a quick bite before heading to your day’s adventures.

Country Cafe serves Rations coffee, a local roaster based out of Bolivar. The coffee menu is simple and reminiscent of an old-school diner experience. You’ve got drip coffee, tea, and hot chocolate as options for your morning drink. However, the breakfast and lunch options are limitless. Stop by for a coffee and stay to eat anything from omelets to hamburgers to hot dogs and beyond.

4. Snallygaster’s Cafe and Wine Bar

  • Address: 1102 Washington St, Bolivar
  • Known for: Cozy atmosphere, quality food, and drinks
  • Best for those looking for a good coffee in Bolivar.

Snallygaster’s Cafe is unique from the other coffee shops on our list as it doubles as a wine bar in the evening. Located in the upper part of Harpers Ferry (technically in the neighboring town of Bolivar), this cozy cafe offers cocktails, fresh ingredients, and coffee.

Set in a charming historic building on Washington Street, the atmosphere itself is warm and inviting. Gather with friends over bruschetta and a glass of wine, or pop in for a warm cup of coffee on your walking tour of the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park.

5. Joan and Joe Coffee

  • Address: 14826 Charles Town Rd, Charles Town, WV 25414

  • Best for those looking for a great coffee in Charles Town.

Located in Charles Town, just a 15-minute drive from Harpers Ferry, Joan and Joe Coffee is another coffee shop in the local area. Sourcing organic Arabica coffee beans, they pride themselves on offering a variety of high-quality coffee drinks. They are known for their cold brew, served either hot or iced. You can even order the “Joan,” a specialty cold brew with vanilla and cream.

They have a ton of creative specialty drinks, such as lavender vanilla latte and maple bacon frappuccino. And be sure to check out their rotating seasonal menu, as they always have something new and exciting to try.

For those that are taking advantage of the best things to do in Charles Town and need a burst of energy, we recommend a stop here.
